Cocktail Spotlight - "World Cocktail Day" and a Bonus

Now that "World Cocktail Week" is winding down I give you one of my favorite cocktails for "World Cocktail Day". This is also my "Cocktail of the Week". As an added bonus, since I'm in the 'cocktail spirit', I offer you another splendid cocktail that has stood the test of time and consumed by many at my events and when I created it for the summer menu at an upscale Martini Bar & Cocktail Lounge in downtown Harrisburg in 2012. As always, enjoy and libate in moderation.

Peach Caipiroska

The Caipiroska is a form of the Caipirinha prepared with Russian vodka instead of the usual cachaca, which is a rum-like spirit produced in Brazil. The Caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil, but is also widely drank in Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. It is also sometimes known as Caipivodka and Caipirodka. It has grown in popularity in recent years as access to international vodkas continues to diversify in South America. My version sweetens it up a bit by using a double-gold medal winner peach-flavored vodka in Texas called "Enchanted Rock" from Rebecca Creek. If you can't get your hands on it, then substitute Absolut Apeach vodka. If like less sweet, then use regular vodka and peach cordial instead of peach vodka. This is a perfect fruity concoction for hot summer days and turn it into a peach, lime, and raspberry sangria punch, which is fabulous (cover photo courtesy of The Food Network). Recipe here -

Makes 1 drink

  • 2 raspberries 2 lime slices, 2 frozen peach slices thawed
  • 2 oz "Enchanted Rock" Peach Flavored Vodka (or Absolut Apeach) or regular vodka, like
  • 1/2 oz Mathilde Peach Liqueur, if using reg vodka
  • 1/4 oz Light simple syrup (2:1 water to superfine sugar to almost watery consistency - don't want too sweet)
  • Top with soda water
  • Crushed ice
  • Garnish lime wedge or peach slice skewered with a raspberry

Prep - In a mixing glass (no ice), place 2 lime slices, 2 thawed peach slices, 2 raspberries and simple syrup and muddle lightly (don't want to overly press lime because of bitter oils in peel). Pour in vodka and stir well. Add crushed ice and stir to melt some of the ice and mix. Pour mixture into an old fashioned glass or rocks glass. Add crushed ice to top. Top with club soda. Garnish lime or peach with raspberry on a skewer.
