Going Green for St. Patty's Day

Let's face it - it is difficult to construct 'green' cocktails for St. Patty's Day...There aren't a lot of choices out there to make your cocktail look 'green', but what is St. Patty's Day without sipping a luxurious and delicious 'green' cocktail...March is the gateway to spring cocktails so why not incorporate some 'spring' flavors with 'end of the winter' flavors...This a purely a seasonal cocktail-based post so don't expect to read much commentary on the history of St. Patty's Day and all the highly commercialized info that is available on the web.

Forget about green beer, Guinness, and shots of Jameson this St. Patrick's Day. Live on the edge and try good old-fashioned Irish whiskey. Contrary to popular belief, Irish whiskey isn’t good only in shots, picklebacks, or the traditional and tragically named Car Bomb - it also makes a fine cocktail. The typically smooth and incredibly drinkable whiskey is one of the most popular spirits on the planet right now. Many of these cocktails can be served all year long.

With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, skip the shamrocks and clovers, and go green with my friends at Prairie Organic Spirits! For any St. Patrick’s Day or spring entertaining pieces, below are a few cocktail recipes to enjoy from Prairie Organic Spirits.

 

Prairie’s Luck

  • 1 ½ oz Prairie Organic Vodka
  • ½ oz lime cordial (lime simple syrup)
  • 3 fresh mint leaves

Shake and strain into a highball glass with ice. Top with soda water and a lime for garnish.

 

Prairie Green Cucumber Martini

  • 2 ½ oz Prairie Cucumber Flavored Organic Vodka
  • ½ oz dry vermouth
  • 3 slices of cucumber
  • Ice

Combine all ingredients in a shaker; shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain into a martini glass and add a fresh slice of cucumber for garnish.

 

Prairie’s Last Word

  • 2 oz Prairie Organic Gin
  • 1 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur
  • 1 oz green chartreuse liqueur
  • 1/2 oz lime juice

Shake and strain into stemmed white wine glass with ice and top with soda water.
