Cocktail Spotlight - Halloween Cocktails (Part 1)

Whether you plan a Halloween Party this year or just want some eerie, spooky, scary concoctions to sip this Halloween season at home or a friend's house, these cocktails will satisfy your palate and impress your guests. They look really cool! Don't expect to have your neighborhood bartender mix one of these up because most of the drinks are novelty drinks and are intended for Halloween. I will be mixing up some of these at my Halloween Party this Saturday. Stay tuned for part 2 on Thursday because there are just too many to list in this one post. Enjoy this long list and have fun with them.

Vampire

  • build in ice-filled highball glass
  • 1/2 oz Absolut vodka
  • 1/2 oz Chambord
  • fill w/cranberry juice
  • shake
  • garnish lime slice
  • optional flame a rose or flower

Zombie

  • build in mixing tin with ice
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 1 oz dark rum
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice, 1/2 oz lime juice, and 1 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1/4 oz grenadine
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • shake & strain into tall glass
  • float 151-proof rum on top

Dark & Spooky

  • build in ice-filled rocks glass
  • pour in ginger beer 1/2 way up the glass
  • add 1/2 oz lime juice and lime slice
  • float dark rum slowly with the back of a spoon until glass is filled creating a layered look
  • garnish gummy bat or ghost

Dracula's Kiss

  • coat bottom of highball with 1/2 oz grenadine
  • add ice to highball glass
  • 1 1/2 oz black cherry vodka (Effen or Smirnoff)
  • fill w/coke, don't stir/allow layered look
  • add cherries for garnish

Jack O'Lantern

  • build in mixing tin with ice
  • 1 oz Hennessey cognac
  • 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 oz ginger ale
  • 1 1/2 oz orange juice
  • shake & strain into ice-filled rocks glass
  • garnish orange wheel on top layer with lime twist in the middle sticking up

Ghost Cocktail

  • 1 1/2 oz  vanilla vodka
  • 1/2 oz  white creme de cacao liqueur
  • 2 tsp  half and half cream
  • 2 tsp  simple syrup
  • white chocolate shavings (optional)

Fill shaker with ice. Add vanilla vodka, white chocolate liqueur, cream, and simple syrup. Shake well and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with tiny shavings of white chocolate (optional).

Liquefied Ghost

  • 1 oz  vodka
  • 1/2 oz  vanilla infused simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz  cream
  • 1 oz  lemon lime soda

Add all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake the devil out of it until the ghost liquefies together. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

Ghostbuster

  • 1 1/2 oz  peach schnapps
  • 1 1/2 oz  melon liqueur
  • 3-5 drops  cream liqueur

Pour the peach schnapps and green melon liqueur into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake thoroughly and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add several drops one at a time until a white ghost appears inside the center of the green liquid’s transparent tone.

A kitchen eye dropper insures best results, but a straw works pretty well for this too. Simply dunk the end of a straw into the bottle or glass of cream liqueur and hold your finger over the end not in the liquid. Then tip at an angle while you release and plug the end repeatedly until complete.

Bloody Brain

  • 1 1/4 oz  strawberry vodka
  • 1/8 oz  lime juice
  • 3/4 oz  cream liqueur
  • 1/2 tsp  grenadine

Start by mixing the vodka / lime juice together and add to a shot glass about 3/4 full. Use a berry flavored vodka to try and complement the creamy taste if you prefer. Next comes the tricky part.  You must carefully add the cream slowly without splashing to form the membrane tissue.  Professional bartenders will use a low flow bottle pourer. Substitute a plastic drinking straw by inserting into the cream liqueur and holding your finger tip over the end while transferring to the shot glass.  Finally, drizzle a small amount of grenadine over the top to simulate dripping red blood.

Satan’s Whiskers

  • 3/4 oz  gin
  • 3/4 oz  dry vermouth
  • 3/4 oz  sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 oz  orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoons  triple sec
  • 2-3 dashes  orange bitters
  • Orange twist for garnish

Strain into a chilled glass after shaking with ice.

Black Devil

  • 2 1/2 oz Absolut Kurant Vodka
  • 1/2 oz Chambord or Black Raspberry liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Blue Curacao
  • splash of blackberry brandy (optional)
  • orange twist garnish and 3 skewered black olives on rim (black licorice rolled and skewered is another option)

Build in a mixing tin, add all ingredients and shake with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with three black olives skewered for decoration on rim and orange twist in the cocktail for taste. This cocktail will take on a very dark color, almost black to celebrate Halloween and has a hint of orange color, which makes it a perfect Halloween cocktail. Trust me, the black olives will not taste good in the cocktail, but provide a little snack.

Skeleton Key

  • 1.25 oz Corner Creek Bourbon
  • .75 oz St. Germain
  • .5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Topped with Ginger Beer
  • 8 dashes Angostura Bitters

Skeletons In The Closet

  • 1 1/2 parts Hornitos Tequila
  • 1 part DeKuyper Island Blue Tropical Schnapps
  • 1 part pineapple juice
  • 1 part mango juice
